Rolling flames for example could be made into an support gem with the tags Projectile & AoE allowing it to support other skills like Arctic Breath or Ball Lightning, too (way more interesting then being locked to just Fireball). I 'd really wish that GGG would revisit the support gem situation. The thing that makes PoE stand out is customization and the freedom to combine things. I've used this jewel in poison ST builds before, it's not as bad as you make it sound, it's actually quite strong. It also synergizes well with ST poison builds, as the poison stacks will hit multiple times with increased projectile damage (increasing the DDing of the DoT + initial hit as well). Due to "projectile damage" scaling all the damage in a Spectral Throw attack, you can have a massive damage increase if you know your max throw range, being able to keep and hold projectiles there.
